  8. Norton AntiVirus sends an email alert message to the specified recipients
  9. when the following virus and system events occur:
  10. <UL>
  11. <LI><STRONG>Infection: </STRONG>Virus detected in an email.
  12. <LI><STRONG>Startup: </STRONG>Scan server started.
  13. <LI><STRONG>Configuration Change: </STRONG>Modification made to setup or scan policy.
  14. <LI><STRONG>LiveUpdate: </STRONG>Virus definitions files have been updated.
  15. <LI><STRONG>Shutdown: </STRONG>Scan server shut down normally.
  16. <LI><STRONG>Halted: </STRONG>Scan server halted abnormally, usually the result of a system error.
  17. <LI><STRONG>Disk Full: </STRONG>If the disk is full, try clearing the Quarantine or specifying a Working folder on another drive (in General options).

  19. The Infection alert is based on a message template file that reports the virus
  20. detected, the infected file, the sender, and the intended recipient. You
  21. can specify another text file if you want to send a custom message. The 
  22. system alerts cannot be modified.

  24. If you change options in a panel, click Save at the bottom of the panel. When 
  25. changes are completed for all panels, click Reload at the bottom of 
  26. any options panel to reset the Scan Server with all of the new settings.

  30.         <DD>Check to turn alerting on.
  31. <DT><STRONG>Message Template File</STRONG>
  32.         <DD>Text template used to generate virus alert 
  33.         messages. It includes variables for the name of the virus detected,
  34.         the name of the infected file, the sender, and the intended recipient.
  35. <DT><STRONG>From</STRONG>
  36.         <DD>All alert messages have this name as the sender. You
  37.         can use a generic name, such as Norton AntiVirus Email Alert, 
  38.         or specify a legitimate email address in case you want recipients 
  39.         to be able to respond.
  40. <DT><STRONG>To</STRONG>
  41.         <DD>Enter the email addresses, separated by commas, to whom you
  42.         want the alert messages delivered. For example, RAY@MYIDEA.NET,DAVE@EPIPLEXIS.COM
  43. <DT><STRONG>Subject</STRONG>
  44.         <DD>Subject field of the email alerts.
  45. <DT><STRONG>SMTP Server</STRONG>
  46.         <DD>Address of the SMTP server from which the email alerts are sent. The recipients 
  47.         for the emails need not be on this physical SMTP server, but should 
  48.         be accessible from it.  
  49. <DT><STRONG>SMTP Server Port</STRONG>
  50.         <DD>Port the SMTP server uses for mail requests. The default
  51.         value for this port is 25, but you can use any valid port 
  52.         that the SMTP server expects to receive mail.
